The COVID-19 confinement rules are easing in Belgium and in other European member states and the activities of the European institutions are thus no longer mainly dictated by this extraordinary situation. As a matter of fact, subject such as animal welfare and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) are coming back onto the European political agenda.
The UEVP welcomes the launching of a committee of inquiry on live transport of animals by the European Parliament, which is an important issue concerning animal welfare. We hope that this initiative will underline issues that will be taken into account in the revision process of the European animal transport regulation.
The UEVP would also like to take the opportunity of the publication of council conclusions concerning the European Court of Auditors’ AMR report to remind its commitment in the fight against AMR.
