This month, the adoption of a resolution of the European Parliament on the subject of antimicrobial resistance highlights once again the importance of this issue for public health in Europe and in the world. The key role of veterinarians in this fight against antimicrobial resistance must be recognised along with the decrease in antibiotics consumption in animals in Europe.

Moreover, we are still closely monitoring the European Commission response to animal disease pandemics across the European Union and notably the exceptional measures in the fight against Avian influenza and African swine fever.

The preparatory work of the European Commission on the revision of the animal welfare legislation is also a key topic for our profession.
