The FVE Board and Section Presidents met at the FVE office in Brussels on 28 August to review the recent General Assembly in Finland and prepare for a busy autumn. They warmly thanked the Finnish colleagues for organising a successful event. Several important documents are being prepared for discussion and possible adoption at the next FVE General Assembly, to be held in Brussels on 13 November. These include:
- a revised Code of Conduct, a list of reserved veterinary activities (formerly the Veterinary Act), and an updated definition of a Veterinarian, prepared by the Statutory Body Working Group;
- a draft position paper on the use of animals in entertainment, developed by the FVE/UEVP Animal Welfare Working Group;
- a draft position on sustainable aquaculture, prepared by a subgroup of the Veterinary Public Health and Sustainability Working Group;
- a reflection paper on dog diets, focusing in particular on raw meat diets; and
- a draft position paper on ante- and post-mortem inspections for discussion.
The Board also reviewed progress on the FVE communication strategy, took stock of ongoing work across the various Working Groups and discussed ways to strengthen collaboration with the Sections.
UEVP acknowledges ‘constructive partnership’
‘From the UEVP perspective, it is essential that veterinary practitioners have a strong and effective voice within the FVE family,’ stressed UEVP President Volker Moser. ‘It is crucial that our practical experience is heard, to actively help shape the development of these important issues.’ This cooperation is working very well, he added, thanking the FVE Board, Secretariat and colleagues across all sections for their ‘constructive partnership.’
Important dates in the coming weeks include meetings of the Statutory Body WG (9 September), ECCVT (30 September), FVE/UEVP Medicines WG (20 October), Animal Welfare WG (29 October), FVE GA (12-13 November) and Animal Health WG (27 November).
