Two practical brochures with guidance on Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) have been released, in English, by the Bavarian State Ministry of the Environment and Consumer Protection (STMUV), together with the Bavarian Chamber of Veterinarians (BLTK) and FVE.

One for farmers, one for vets

The brochure on Biosecurity measures is aimed at livestock farmers, and contains recommendations for reducing the risk of FMD virus introduction and spread on farms. The other brochure is aimed at veterinary professionals and outlines the steps to take in case of suspicion of FMD.

FMD: better education needed

‘Discussions about lessons learnt from the FMD outbreaks in Europe earlier this year was a focal part of the UEVP general assembly in June,’ commented Volker Moser, UEVP President, congratulating his German colleagues on the initiative. ‘Better preparation and education, in particular of younger vets who have never seen the disease, was among the recommendations.’
