Natural disasters, emergencies and crises can have devastating consequences not only for people but also for animals. Yet animal health and welfare are often overlooked in preparedness and response planning. To address this issue, FVE is co-hosting a live webinar, Unseen Victims, Unseen Risks: Animals in Disasters, the Cost of Being Unprepared and the Essential Role of Veterinarians, on 19 June from 14:00 to 15:30 CEST.
The critical role of veterinarians
The webinar will explore the often-hidden impacts of disasters on animals, livestock systems and the people who depend on them. It will also highlight the critical role veterinarians play in safeguarding animal welfare, public health, food security and community resilience before, during and after emergencies. The programme includes speakers of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE), the Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (DG HERA) and the European Food Security Crisis Preparedness and Response Mechanism (EFSCM).
The webinar is organised as part of the EU Health Policy Platform (#EUHPP) Live Webinar series. Registration is free.
