The position paper on chronic medication use in sport horses was discussed by the Federation of European equine veterinary associations (FEEVA) Ethics & Welfare working group (EWWG, formerly Welfare working group) on 7 January. Wider welfare and ethics issues in equestrian sport were also explored, including blood rules, whip use, assisted reproductive technology (ART) and concerns around fraud in breeding practices. 

Working group chairs

Changes in working group chairing were confirmed as follows:

  • Joe Collins (Ireland) – Chair, Medicines working group
  • Lucy Grieve (UK) – Chair, Ethics & Welfare working group
  • Katja Hautala (Finland) – Chair, Disease Surveillance working group
  • Michael Köhler (Germany) – Chair, Pre-Purchase Examination working group
  • Mirela Tripon (Romania) – Developing the Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) subgroup (part of the EWWG)

The next in-person FEEVA Board Meeting is set for 3 March in Brussels.
