Cases of foot-and-mouth diseases were detected in Germany in January, and more recently in Hungary and Slovakia. On Thursday 17 April, a webinar on foot-and-mouth disease will be hosted by the FVE, with Polly Compston from the European Commission for the Control of Foot and Mouth Disease (EuFMD) and professor Carola Sauter-Louis from the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut (FLI) in Germany.

The experts will report on outbreaks and control strategies of this highly contagious disease that could continue to spread in Europe.

Carola Sauter-Louis will provide insights into the recent outbreak in Germany and will focus on field investigations, laboratory diagnostics and the coordinated response measures. Polly Compston will present the collaboration, strategies and challenges in responding to this outbreak at EU level.

Also on the panel: Pásztor Szabolcs (chief veterinary officer of Hungary) and Martin Chudy (CVO of Slovakia).
