Pet Power Night 2025, held in Brussels last week, celebrated the human-animal bond and the role of pets in society. Organised by Pet Alliance Europe (Fediaf, AnimalhealthEurope, Fecava and FVE), the event was attended by over 100 participants, including Members of the European Parliament, European Commission and Council officials, animal welfare organisations, assistance animal associations and pet industry stakeholders, many joined by their four-legged friends.
Focus on assistance dogs and animal welfare
Herbert Schroyen from Purpose Dogs presented its breeding programme to reduce congenital issues in assistance dogs, enhancing welfare, cost-efficiency and support for those in need. The topic was especially timely amid EU talks on new welfare and traceability rules for cats and dogs, noted Fecava President (and UEVP board member) Ann Criel.
Advancing pet welfare
Closing the evening, MEP Petras Auštrevičius shared reflections on the importance of advancing pet welfare in EU policymaking. He also announced the winners of the 2025 ‘Best Buddies in the Brussels Bubble’ photo contest, now in its fourth edition.
Advocating for responsible pet ownership
The event also featured a digital photo wall and pet ‘PAWtrait’ corner, ensuring participants and their pets left with memories of the celebration. Pet Alliance Europe reaffirmed its mission to advocate for responsible pet ownership, support EU policies that safeguard animal welfare, and showcase the many ways pets enhance European lives.
