Veterinary practitioners are invited to join a free webinar co-organised by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the Federation of Veterinarians of Europe (FVE) on 3 June from 15:30 to 16:30 (CEST). The session will focus on helping veterinary professionals better understand and interpret the first EU-wide report on sales and use of antimicrobials in animals, published at the end of March. The webinar is aimed at veterinarians and aims to support responsible antimicrobial use in animal health. The draft agenda will be available soon, and attendees are encouraged to submit questions in advance. Register here for the webinar.
50% reduction target for 2030 target reached
The report was based on data collected in all the 27 EU member states, along with Iceland and Norway, on both sales and use of antimicrobials in animals. The report shows that the level of antimicrobial sales came down to 88.5 mg/PCU in 2023, meaning that half of the 50% reduction target set for 2030 has been reached. Nearly all antimicrobials (98.4%) are sold for use in food-producing animals, with only a small portion (1,6%) going to other animals, mostly companion animals. More information can be found on the FVE website.
