Two key joint FVEUEVP working groups have been renewed for the 2026–2029 term: the Medicines Working Group and the Animal Welfare Working Group.

Supporting veterinary medicines policy

The Medicines Working Group supports the development of FVE policies and positions on EU legislation relating to veterinary medicinal products and medicated feed. Its work also focuses on improving the availability of veterinary medicines, promoting their responsible use and disposal, strengthening pharmacovigilance and contributing to efforts to combat antimicrobial resistance.

Composition of the medicines working group

The group will be chaired by Jean-Pierre Orand (France/FVE) and includes Matteo Gianesella (Italy/FVE), Jim Morris (Ireland/FVE), Torbsten Pabst (Germany/UEVP), Michael Hässig (Switzerland/UEVP) and Lucie Pokludova (Czechia/UEVP). Allied organisations are represented by Peter Wijnen (PVSGEU), Pieter-Jan Serreyn (EVERI), Jobke van Hout (Pharmacovigilance Officer – KNMvD), Athina Trachili (UEVP), Piotr Kwicienski (FVE), Ann Criel (FECAVA) and Joe Collins (FEEVA). Veterinary students (IVSA) will also be represented.

Advancing animal welfare priorities

The Animal Welfare Working Group will support FVE in developing positions on the revision of EU animal welfare legislation and in implementing the FVE Animal Welfare Strategy. As recognised in its terms of reference, its members contribute essential scientific expertise, ethical judgement and practical experience to animal welfare. The group will also contribute to policy development and advocacy on a wide range of animal welfare issues.

Composition of the animal welfare working group

The Animal Welfare Working Group will be chaired by Liz Mullineaux (UK/UEVP). Members include Rebecka Westin (Sweden/FVE), Catherine Lawer (Ireland/FVE), Ellen Deelen (Netherlands/FVE), Julien Le Tual (France/UEVP), Manuela Michelazzi (Italy/UEVP) and Katerina Valdhans (Czechia/UEVP). Allied organisations are represented by Osvanna Mikhaylovksaya (PVSGEU), Wendy van Zonneveld (FECAVA), Mette Uldahl (FVE), as well as a representative from IVSA.

As a first step, both working groups will develop three-year action plans with measurable objectives, which will be submitted to the FVE and UEVP Boards for approval.
