Peste des petits ruminants (PPR) is a growing concern for Europe – recent outbreaks raise concerns, but what do they teach us about preparedness and early detection? Join us on Friday 20 March (10:30 – 12:00 CET) to find out and support a Europe-wide survey assessing the perceptions of veterinarians in Europe on the level of preparedness for sustained incursions of PPR in affected and non-affected European countries.

The interactive session will bring together leading experts offering a comprehensive and practical perspective on this priority disease:

  • Jane Clark, FVE representative Vice-President, will introduce the context and objectives of the webinar, the importance of PPR and role of veterinarians, as well as an overview of the collaboration between FVE, EFSA and the University of Surrey.
  • Olivier Kwiatek, virologist at CIRAD, will provide an overview of the European PPR situation and diagnostic tools for practice, as well as practical implications for veterinarians and competent authorities.
  • Sara Lysholm, PPR Status Officer in WOAH’s Status Department, will explain the global situation of PPR and the role of WOAH and disease status, also tackling trade implications and international considerations.
  • Abel Bulamu Ekiri, lecturer in Infectious Disease Epidemiology at the University of Surrey, will present the objectives of the survey assessing the perceptions of veterinarians in Europe on the level of PPR preparedness, and how the results will be used.
  • Gloria Hylviu, pharmacovigilance specialist at the Albanian National Authority for Veterinary and Plant Protection, will share insights from her role in the command chain and emergency response group during the PPR outbreak in Albania.
