On 22 October, the Federation of European Equine Veterinary Associations (FEEVA) held its annual General Assembly in Lyon, France, hosted by the French Equine Veterinary Association (AVEF). Chaired by President Joe Collins, the meeting welcomed delegates and guests from across Europe for discussions on equine health, welfare, medicines and EU policy developments.
Updates from Europe and beyond
FEEVA guest speakers included Tracy Turner (AAEP), Volker Moser (UEVP), Göran Åkerström (FEI), Eirini Polygerou (IVSA) and FVE representatives Nancy De Briyne and Mette Uldahl, who presented updates on international collaboration, welfare and European veterinary legislation.
Two position papers adopted
Reports from FEEVA Working Groups included updates on disease surveillance, welfare, and pre-purchase examinations. Two new position papers — on oral examination and radiography of the cervical vertebrae during prepurchase examinations — were unanimously adopted, and the Equine Section of the Slovenian Veterinary Chamber was welcomed as a new member.
New board members
Katja Hautala (Finland) and Mirela Tripon (Romania) were elected to the Board, with Andrea Brignolo (Italy) confirmed for another term as Treasurer. FEEVA congratulates the new members and thanked outgoing board members Anette Graf and Lucjan Witkowski for their service. The next FEEVA General Assembly will be held on 9 September 2026 in Birmingham, UK, alongside the BEVA Annual Congress.
FEEVA, 'a valued member of UEVP'
The FEEVA GA was a 'high-quality meeting that strengthened collaboration and mutual understanding within the European veterinary community' stressed Volker Moser, UEVP President, who attended the meeting. 'We are proud that FEEVA is a valued member of UEVP – a true win–win–win for UEVP, FEEVA, and, above all, for Europe’s horses and the veterinarians who care for them, he said, thanking FEEVA president Joe Collins and his Board and AVEF for their warm hospitality and excellent organisation.
Presentations are available on the FEEVA website.
