Tomorrow (25 April) is World Veterinary Day. The theme, Veterinarians: Guardians of Food and Health, ‘highlights the critical and systemic role veterinarians play in safeguarding food safety, food security, public health and animal health worldwide,’ according to the World Veterinary Association (WVA). The I Am a Guardian social media campaign (#IAmaGuardian) will highlight vets as protectors of food safety and public health.
A toolkit to help increase public awareness
World Veterinary Day 2026 aspires to increase public awareness and policy recognition of veterinary services as a cornerstone of secure and sustainable food systems. To support celebrations worldwide, the WVA has developed a comprehensive toolkit providing key messages, a range of social media visuals, and activity ideas for veterinary associations, institutions and professionals to promote the theme and engage their communities.
WVA annual report published
WVA has also published its 2025 annual report of activities, a comprehensive publication highlighting ‘a year of strong performance, global collaboration, and continued strategic development across the veterinary profession.’
