On 17 April, the Federation of Veterinarians of Europe (FVE) held a joint webinar in collaboration with the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut (FLI) and the European Commission for the Control of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (EuFMD).

The event focused on the recent foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) outbreaks in Europe and the strategies to enhance resilience in managing such events.

The session featured three expert speakers:

  • Prof. Dr. Carola SAUTER-LOUIS (FLI), who presented insights on the January 2025 outbreak in Germany, focusing on field investigations, laboratory diagnostics, and the coordinated response measures put in place;
  • Polly COMPSTON (EuFMD), who discussed European-level collaboration, strategies, and the challenges encountered in responding to the outbreak, particularly in the areas of disease prevention and management;
  • Martin CHUDÝ, Chief Veterinary Officer of the Slovak Republic, who shared recent experiences and insights from the Slovak perspective.
