The World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) has officially reinstated Germany’s status as free of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD), the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture announced on 15 April.

This confirmation follows the temporary suspension of Germany’s FMD-free status earlier this year, prompted by a suspected outbreak on a small cattle farm in Germany. However, no spread of the disease was detected.

The German authorities emphasized that swift and effective containment measures were critical in preventing wider disruption to the livestock sector.
