On 24 March 2025, the European Commission adopted an implementing act introducing special control measures in response to new outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF). The implementing act notifies recent ASF outbreaks in Germany and Poland.

Consequently, new special control measures have been taken by the European Commission and cover the following regions:

  • the state of Brandenburg, in Germany;
  • the Podkarpackie, Pomorskie and Zachodniopomorskie regions, in Poland.

Furthermore, based on the information and justifications provided by Poland, and considering the effectiveness of the African swine fever control measures, as well as in line with the risk mitigation measures defined in the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) Terrestrial Animal Health Code, the implementing act also revises the classification of certain areas where ASF control measures apply:

  • The region of Mazowieckie is downgraded from Zone II to Zone I (surveillance), as no new cases of African swine fever have been detected in the region in the last 12 months.
  • The regions of Małopolskie, Mazowieckie and Podkarpackie, initially classified as Zone I (surveillance), are removed from the list, as no new cases of African swine fever have been detected in these regions in the last 12 months.
