On 4 April, in the context of the ongoing foot-and-mouth disease outbreak in Europe, the European Veterinary Federation (FVE) published an updated article providing an overview of the current situation.
Key points include:
- Germany: In January 2025, three water buffaloes in Brandenburg tested positive for FMD serotype O. After containment measures, Germany regained its FMD-free status in March 2025, except for a small containment zone, which will remain until at least 11 April 2025.
- Hungary: On 7 March 2025, a case was confirmed at a dairy farm near the Slovakian border. Emergency measures, including culling the affected herd, were implemented. A second outbreak was confirmed on 26 March, followed by two more in Győr-Moson-Sopron County.
- Slovakia: Since 21 March 2025, multiple outbreaks have occurred near the Hungarian and Austrian borders, affecting six holdings. Export bans and enhanced border controls have been enforced.
- Austria has closed several border crossings and conducted tests in adjacent areas, all of which returned negative results.
