Sans titre

In 2025, the Federation of Veterinarians of Europe (FVE) maintained a high level of activity and influence at European level. Engagement with EU institutions remained strong, with over 671 meetings. Sustained advocacy with the European Commission, Council, Parliament and successive Council Presidencies contributed to concrete outcomes, including commitments towards a future EU livestock strategy and the inclusion of key FVE proposals in forthcoming companion animal legislation.

Consultations on biosecurity, animal welfare, medicines and veterinary services

FVE responded to 60 consultations during the year, supported by the expertise of its working groups and national members. Core policy priorities included:

  • promoting prevention, including biosecurity and vaccination over mass killing,
  • strengthening veterinary services,
  • advancing discussions on the future of fur farming,
  • pushing implementation of mandatory animal health visits, and
  • advocating for administrative simplification, notably under the Veterinary Medicines Regulation.

Workshops, projects and webinars

In the field of antimicrobial resistance, 23 AMRFV workshops trained approximately 2,700 participants. FVE also remained actively involved in major EU-funded projects, including JAMRAI II (antimicrobial resistance), VetJoy (veterinary wellbeing and DEI, supported by Zoetis) and TransformDairyNet (cow–calf contact systems). Knowledge exchange and outreach were further strengthened through ten webinars reaching more than 5,000 veterinarians.

People, positions and milestones

FVE launched the 4th VetSurvey, supported by Hill’s. Results will be published in the second half of 2026. FVE welcomed new staff members and acknowledged the valuable contributions of interns. The Federation also paused to honour the memory of four esteemed colleagues who passed away: Simon Doherty, Hugo Fernandez, Franz Josef Jäger and Bartomeu Anguera. Finally, 2025 marked the celebrations for FVE’s 50th anniversary, with events in Cyprus and Brussels, a digital campaign and a photo contest.
